Taste Hop Harvest in Five Rogue IPAs
Hop Harvest at Rogue Farms came to an end in September but now you can taste those hops in five Hop Family IPAs.
When all was said and done, we had harvested 87,372 lbs. of hops from our 52 acre hopyard in Independence, Ore. The Rogue harvest wrapped up on September 29 this year but we’re not done with the hops.
Each of our 10 varietals of hops will be used to craft Rogue ales and lagers all year long. They’re especially important for our Hop Family, a collection of five IPAs, each brewed with a carefully selected combination of Rogue Farms-grown hops.
Let’s start with 4 Hop IPA. Alluvial, Freedom, Rebel and Yaquina Hops join Rogue Farms-grown malts to deliver an aromatic but drinkable IPA at 4.44% ABV.
Next, 5 Hop IPA gets dark. Roasted malts give this IPA a little bit of color but they don’t overwhelm the citrus and pine flavors of the Alluvial, Freedom, Liberty, Rebel and Yaquina Hops. It’s the black sheep of our family at 5.55% ABV.
Then 6 Hop IPA brings us back to the traditional IPA with a big, beautiful bite. The union of Alluvial, Freedom, Independent, Liberty, Revolution and Yaquina brings a bitter but balanced flavor to the 6.66% ABV brew.
The original Rogue hop beer, 7 Hop IPA toes the double IPA line with a bold zest complemented by a malt backbone. Share this 7.77% ABV IPA with a friend.
The big boss of the family is 8 Hop IPA. Alluvial, Freedom, Independent, Liberty, Newport, Rebel, Revolution and Yaquina Hops team up alongside a blend of Rogue Farms malts that can stand their ground. It results in brash and burly flavors for a 8.88% ABV.
As we mentioned, we grow ten types of hops at Rogue Farms. For the first time this year, we harvested ten acres each of Keven and Adair Hops, our newest proprietary varietals. We’ve already been experimenting with them for what may result in the newest addition to our Hop Family. Stay tuned.
