The Wait Is Over for Real Pumpkin Beer
Pumpkin Patch Ale is crafted with pumpkins that Rogue Ales grows themselves.
It’s true. What some call pumpkin beer has been on shelves since June.
But since we know what goes into growing and harvesting real pumpkins, we’re pretty sure that’s not real pumpkin in there.
On a rainy day in May, we planted pumpkin seeds on an acre of land at our farm in Independence, Oregon.
By June we were seeing sprouts but there was a problem: wireworms were eating the seeds. Luckily, we were able to manage the problem and our pumpkins kept growing.
By the end of June, the pumpkins had flowered and gourds were in our fields by the end of July.
Harvest finally rolled around on August 12th when we picked 12,142 lbs of pumpkins and drove them 77 miles to the brewery in Newport, Oregon, where we roasted and finally brewed with them.
We bottle the finished product, Pumpkin Patch Ale, early this month and now you can find a fresh bottle of it on shelves next to those other “pumpkin beers.”
It took a while but we promise that real pumpkin beer is worth the wait.
