Through mood swings and violent episodes, Betty stood by her man. But as Fred’s retirement approached, she realized her resentment had grown.

Betty learned her Social Security spousal benefit, half of his, was more than her pitiful lifetime earnings allowed.

Fred’s impulse buying, refusal to budget, and dismissal of acquiring the sound investment property she’d discovered would leave them with nothing.

His backup plan? A reverse mortgage. Fred’s health guaranteed that that shame would be hers to bear much longer than his.

The fire extinguished, the coffin shut, a fat check and condolences in hand, Betty looked to a brighter future. Survival skills sure come in handy.
