A Comprehensive Guide to Belém District's Top Attractions: Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries and a Century-Old Egg Tart Shop (Part 1)

Yesterday April 18, was Portuguese Museum Day, and most museums were free to visit. I booked my tickets a day in advance on the official website…so that I could see this century-old complex again…for those who like history or churches, this place is not to be missed.

Arrive at Alges around 9 am and walk 15 minutes to Belém Tower

The overseas combatant's monument is located near the famous Belém Tower. It is a work of sculptor João Antero de Almeida and architects Francisco José Ferreira Guedes de Carvalho, Helena Albuquerque, and Sidónio Costa Cabral. Construction began on May 12, 1993, and was completed on January 15, 1994, next to the Buen Suceso Fort. The names of the soldiers who gave their lives in combat are engraved on the wall.
