“The Ajuda National Palace is a neoclassical building located in the Ajuda district of Lisbon, Portugal. It was built on the site of the temporary wooden royal tent camp used to accommodate the royal family after the destruction of the previous palace, the Ribeira Palace, in the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. Initially designed as a late Baroque-Rococo building, it was later redesigned as a magnificent palace in the fashionable neoclassical style by another architect.

Construction of the Ajuda National Palace began in 1796 and continued until the 19th century. During the construction process, there were several interruptions and delays due to financial difficulties or political conflicts. In 1807, the French army invaded Portugal and the Portuguese royal family fled to Brazil, causing the project to progress very slowly. The lack of funding also led to a reduction in the scale of the project.
