An Open Letter to Celine Dion After Her NBC Special
Bonjour Celine,
First of all, I want to say thank you. I’ve been a massive fan since “Beauty and the Beast” and “Falling Into You”. I was 8 when “Falling Into You” came out. I quickly became fascinated by your impeccable voice and l loved you instantly. I loved your big voice, your goofy, vivacious personality, and your big, beautiful heart. I “borrowed” that album so often from my dad that he eventually gave it to me. Like you, I have been singing for as long as I have had memories. Like you, I do not remember my life before music was a massive part of it. Your music greatly influenced my life as a young musician. I did every talent show and music competition I could as a kid and was in choir for 6 years. I often used your music as my contemporary pop pieces. At 10, I started playing piano and yours were some of the first songs I learned. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, I took French for 6 years so I could bettet understand your music. By 18, I was fluent. In my 20’s, I joined TeamCeline and met an entirely new group of international besties-friends I still have to this day, including your dear friend Jenna who wrote For Keeps. At 14, I wrote you a letter and you instructed your Toronto team to send me goodies. I still have the postcard photo you sent me decades later. You have deeply influenced my life as a musician, a singer, and your voice…
