Romance Comments (Lily #1)

Please follow our collection at https://medium.com/romance-shorts so you can see all our latest stories!

This post is a way of talking back to contributors of this collection. If you have comments, please label them "Romance Comments (Joe #X)" and then submit them as you would a regular story. As a writer and editor, I feel that feedback is an essential part of the writing process. Please keep comments positive and constructive.

When I started this thread, I thought I was providing a place for short classic romance fiction, where bodices get ripped in a just a few moments: Yvette Franklin's Christmas story was what I had in mind, a short piece of fiction where two people who have known each other come together under unusual circumstances https://medium.com/romance-shorts/d9b716813630

I also added Lee Mullins' Foot in the Trash Can, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/b0bed8e01078, a mystery with a touch of romance, in this case a gay romance.

But what I got when I opened up the collection to submissions was quite different. I got slices (real or imagined) of romance, moments of passion, love and loss captured in short bursts:

Christopher's Goodbye tells of the end of a marriage and the regrets at its loss, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/9f20e6e238d2 Marcus Guilding's A Vacation tells of a chance encounter and the desires it stirs up, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/aabeefa3cd17 and Alice Way's Tourists tells of another brief meeting and the longing it stirs, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/af628822c011. Lesley John's characters come even closer to connection and love, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/9beb7a1bd3f7 while Andre Borges' narrator tells of the Last High, the moment that lingers forever, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/43b271b0d6dd

Also received Fox Kerry's Strange Arrows, a witty fantasy discussion between two cupids, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/9dbd4a102755

Finally we have four pieces in Italian from Tony Balbi. If you would like to read them and don't read Italian, just use http://translate.google.com to get a sense of what they are about. The translator doesn't capture the poetic structure of the originals but does give you a peek into his lyrical world of love in the worlds of grownups and children: https://medium.com/romance-shorts/aaf9a2093865, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/37c38b6062d7, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/ad5943c6b3d4, https://medium.com/romance-shorts/f38038d130f

Look forward to hearing from you all and do check out my mystery collection as well: https://medium.com/mystery-shorts as well as the meta collection https://medium.com/collection-feedback where you can talk about collections. (Poet and sculpture Kirk Van Dyke is responsible for the piece of sculpture on Collection Feedback).

All best,
