Meet Johnny Graham: General Manager at Arlington Rooftop Bar & Grill in Arlington, VA.

When we first met Johnny over a year ago, he was already advocating to get rid of as many credit card and cash transactions as possible. He wanted to ease the payment process at his main bar during big sports games and at his rooftop bar in nice weather. We both knew this would be the perfect place for Rooam! Using Omnivore’s universal API to integrate into their Micros 3700 point of sale system, we seamlessly completed our install.

Since then, Johnny has been an active Rooam supporter, not only for his business but also as a user himself. We’re grateful whenever our clients and customers are willing to share their experience with us. See what Johnny had to say about his experience with Rooam thus far:

“Rooam is a no brainer! Not only for the customer, but for the business owner too. I use it in both scenarios and absolutely love it.

As a customer, the obvious benefits are:

1) You don’t have to part with your card, be it for an initial swipe or to be held at the bar. Often times, customers have to go through the inconvenience of coming back the next day to retrieve their card due to it being forgotten.

2) You never, ever have to flag down your server or fight your way to the bar when you need to pay your check. When you’re ready to leave, you can simply just leave.

3) You can see, in real time, how your check is progressing so there’s no “sticker shock” at the end.

From a business point of view, the major benefits are glaringly obvious, especially at two critical times:

1) At the end of a sports or live music event; you’ve had throngs of fans in your venue, enjoying the entertainment for 2, 3, or even 4 hours. The food, drinks and service are top-notch, yet everyone wants to leave at the same time. Chaos ensues with lines of customers trying to pay the check, and sometimes demanding a 12 credit card split, etc. All the fun, enjoyment and goodwill generated in the past few hours are slowly slipping away, simply because everyone wants to leave at the same time and they have to wait a few minutes!

2) At closing time, the madness of trying to ensure everyone gets last call and their cards back, along with the ridiculously wet credit card slips being handed back to you, can all be made a simpler process just by having Rooam checks.

I’ve also found that the majority of checks are left at the default 20% gratuity. There are obviously going to be exceptions, but that’s the same story whether it be cash or credit card.

With Rooam, go ahead and leave, no need to wait to pay or get your card back, just go!

When folks tell me they don’t want to add their financial info to an app, my first comment is always: ‘You got Uber or Lyft on your phone? Amazon, Pandora…?’ and the list goes on. More often than not, they’ll download it right there and then.
