This ultra-hip neighborhood in Brooklyn is home to eclectic gallery spaces, underground dive bars, trendy coffee shops and the people who have inspired its grungy and artsy exterior. Our Roomrs members can find themselves immersed not only in its artistic and trendy flair but in the classic Brooklyn feel characterized by people, bodegas, churches and Puerto Rican flags.

With all that Bushwick has to offer, this Bushwick-centered neighborhood guide will make getting around your neighborhood simple and seamless.

How to get around:

Hey, don’t fret! The L train isn’t shutting down! In fact, it is running throughout the day, with shuttle support on late nights and weekends making it easy to get back and forth to, well, wherever you’re going. If you’re headed home to any of our Roomrs apartments, the L and M trains will get you there, but on better weather days, our favorite mode of transportation is a good bike ride! Did you know that our partner, Blink Fitness, grants you exclusive discounts to Citibike just by being a member?

Where to get caffeinated:

These sister coffee shops, Baby Skips and Little Skips, are both located in Bushwick and just steps away from our Roomrs apartments off Myrtle and Central Ave. In addition to to serving Counter Culture coffee, the Little Skips location hosts seasonal art shows, weekly open mics and live music, and frequent fundraisers — always with a focus on the Bushwick community of artists, musicians and nomads.

Where to nourish yourself:

The Wheelhouse has some of the best gourmet sandwiches and grilled cheeses Brooklyn has to offer AND our members get a special discount off food. Stop in any night of the week for happy hour specials. Come for Roomrs night on Thursdays, or on Tuesday nights, order yourself a sandwich and tater tots, and stay for Trivia hosted by Geeks Who Drink.

Where to de-stress the work week:

This loft-style lounge is Bushwick’s local living room with music, food and cocktails. Lot 45 hosts a variety of weeknight and weekend themed events to keep every night interesting.

Where to spend a classy Friday night:

Tasty AF cocktails and a classy experience to say the least. Yours Sincerely is a craft cocktails establishment for those of you who like to get fancy on a Friday night, but don’t want to break the bank. These cocktails come right out of the tap and into a beaker! It’s one of our favorite places with a chill ambience for intimate conversations.

Where to buy your groceries:

Bushwick Food Coop is an owner-run food cooperative serving Bushwick, Brooklyn and beyond. With the support of local owners and non-owners, they are able to provide local and organic foods at affordable prices. You can become an owner by donating 3 hours of your time monthly in exchange for a 30% wholesale markup on food. Not interested in becoming an owner? Non-owners are allowed to shop at this co-op and receive an 83% markup on groceries!

Where to [not] spend money:

Take a walk and head to our favorite [FREE] outdoor gallery. This scenic route starts on St. Nicholas Ave and Flushing and features graffiti and street art from artists all over the world and is put together by The Bushwick Collective. From there, choose a direction, and let this open-air museum speak to you.

Where to get fit:

Blink Fitness is a trendy, no frills gym with locations throughout New York City. Roomrs members get an exclusive discount to any of their locations, including their Bushwick gym right on Knickerbocker Avenue.

Where to disconnect/reconnect:

Leave your smartphones on your Roomrs smart lamp and get cozy right at home. Sometimes the best way to disconnect is to enjoy the benefits of all-inclusive housing. So saunter into the living room, grab a book, and make it a self care day.
