Announcing Root Ventures Fund III: $150M for technical founders
TLDR: we’re announcing Root Ventures III, our newest $150M Seed and Pre-Seed fund dedicated to technical founders. Also, we’re hiring an Analyst.
With $325M AUM, Root Ventures has been investing in technical founders across two major themes:
- Founders that are building on the frontier of what’s possible: e.g. Wildtype, Adept, Tortuga, Chargelab, Oma Fertility, Kayhan, and
- Founders that are building the engineering tools so everyone else can keep up: e.g. Daily, nTopology, Great Expectations, Okteto, Meroxa
What’s remained consistent across all three of our funds is our high-conviction, unconditional willingness to lead in all of our investments.
Root Ventures III is already writing $1–3M first checks, with the first three companies spread across the Bay Area, Boston, and South Africa.
We take pride in being a partnership where every investor is an engineer and tinkerer: from the wireless networks and CRM to even the electrical work and cabinetry, we DIY as much of the firm as we can because it’s more fun that way. It also gives us the chance to experiment with new technology firsthand, and we are growing our team to do even more.
In Fund II, we added Lee Edwards from Pivotal & Teespring to focus on devtools and Emily Henriksson from Tesla & SpaceX to double down on hardtech and climate tech. Now we’re looking for our first Analyst to join the team. If you have strong opinions about technology and how to build it, we’d love for you to apply (hint, our jobs are backgrounded).
If you are even thinking about joining or founding a startup that transforms an engineering workflow, we should get coffee—contact info and more details about the new Fund and Analyst role at root.vc.
The Root Ventures team,
Avidan, Chrissy, Kane, Lee, Emily
