We’re delighted to announce that Lee Edwards is joining Root Ventures as a Venture Partner to help us deploy our second fund.

Over the past few years, Lee has established himself as prolific angel investor with a personal portfolio that includes Skydio, Lever, Common Networks, Osmo Systems, Enzyme, and more. After we recently co-invested in a yet-to-be-announced enterprise IoT company, inviting him to work with Root Ventures was an obvious next step.

Lee brings a breadth of technical and management experience to Root: he started his career as a mechanical engineer in iRobot’s Government & Industrial Robotics Division, working on autonomy for ground robotics (PackBot, Warrior, SUGV). He later jumped over to software as an engineer at Pivotal Labs, before roles as a Lead Engineer at SideTour (acquired by Groupon in 2013), engineering manager for GrouponLive, and VP Engineering and then CTO at Teespring. Lee graduated from the Olin College of Engineering ’07 and now runs Parcel B, a collective of alumni investing in Olin startups.

It’s not often we find someone with mechanical engineering, software engineering, managerial, and investing experience — we can’t wait see what Lee will help our founders achieve. Lee will be based out of our office in San Francisco, where he will be investing in hard tech — including AI/ML, computer vision, robotics, and the future of work for engineers and creators of all kinds

Outside of work, Lee is an avid drone pilot, science fiction enthusiast, and active organizer in the LGBT technology community in San Francisco.
