As a Former Wine Store Owner, These Are the Wines I Would Buy Before Trump’s Tariffs Really Hit
If you can do a stock up, this is how to do it
Thankfully, it wasn’t the 200% alcohol tariff Trump threatened. But he still declared a 10% tariff on imported wine from important winemaking regions like Europe, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
In other words, wine is about to get more expensive. And it’s already an expensive thing.
Wine might not be high up your priority list of purchases right now. There are certainly more important items to consider. But if you drink wine, you might want to consider stocking up on a few bottles if you can. Your future wallet will thank you for it.
I’m a Sommelier, ex-wine store and bar owner and wine writer and have been at least one of these things for 12+ years. In my professional opinion, these are the wines I would buy now, before the worst of the tariffs hit.
Tariffs will affect big-ticket wines the most
So plan accordingly.
Because tariffs, sales tax and markups are calculated on a percentage basis, it stands to reason that tariffs will affect expensive wines more than your everyday bottles.
