How Traditional British Food Is Finally Being Recognised by the Rest of the World

British food is not exactly considered one of the great world cuisines. We’ve been on the sticky end of our poor reputation for decades thanks to (among other things) our love for beige food drowned in beige sauces.

Our food is not as elegant as the Nordics. It is not as painstakingly detailed as Japanese. It is not as providence-based as places like Italy.

No. We are the land of pastry and butter and potatoes and gravy. Filling food made cheaply.

But times change. What people want from their food changes. And British food — believe it or not — is finally getting the recognition it deserves on social media. People are going wild for our Sunday roasts, shepherd’s pies and fish and chips.

And, the most surprising one of all, our baked potatoes.

There are reasons for this. Not just because finally everyone is interested in our quirky British food ways — like how we love to drown our chips in curry sauce (if you’re Welsh), or gravy (if you’re from the north).

More like big, existential reasons like a desperate need for comfort in a world that feels hellbent on upending world…
