My Daughter Turned 21 And Immediately ‘Gave Up’ Drinking

There’s nothing wrong with going the non-alcoholic route or not “drinking” much at all. It’s a trend that’s here to stay.

Over the weekend, my daughter visited to, in part, commemorate her 21st birthday. She had already “celebrated” with friends the night she turned 21 and woke up with a hangover the next morning. Her introduction to drinking reaffirmed that it’s probably not something she plans on getting into.

Like many parents of freshly-turned 21-year-old kids, I looked forward to having a drink with her.

However, on night one of our time together, when my wife and I suggested stopping for a drink after dinner, my daughter said —

That’s fine, but, just so you know, I probably won’t finish it.

Not a big deal, we said. We’ll stick to our plan to go to a bar tomorrow night.

To which, my daughter replied —

I probably won’t finish it then either.

Long story, short. She’s just not a big drinker. And I don’t think she ever will be.

She doesn’t like the taste of most alcohol. Finding something she likes and going to bars — in general — just doesn’t seem to be a priority.
