The Unexpected Little Things You’ll Miss When Moving Away
You’ll prepare yourself for the big things, but it’ll be the little things you really miss.
The little things in life make it worth living. And, in the end, the little things are those you miss most.
When preparing for any long trip, whether to move out of the country or head out to college, you plan on the big things. The absence of birthday parties and dinners with friends. You, if you’re like me, put all your emotional fortitude into protecting yourself against missing these large aspects in life (because family and friends are pretty big aspects).
At first, it’s difficult. Not just for you, but for some of those you leave behind. My mom texted me, “I love you,” every morning when I first moved to Arizona from Michigan. Granted, she was sending them at 7 AM Eastern time, which meant at 4 AM my phone went off (kind of the equivalent of a stranger harassing you on the street, then saying “God bless” as you leave), though I appreciated the sentimentality.
But the big things fade in time. A difficult first few weeks turn into an easier few months. Eventually, you adapt. You realize you can live without those things. Or, at least, you can get by without them.
