XR Round-Up April/May ‘22
At ROSE, we are constantly looking for advancements and inspiration within the XR community. This month, the XR space was filled new, inspiring, experiences! Check out some of the latest in our April/May XR round-up.
1. AR in the Arena
Quintar and AT&T have partnered to bring the world of augmented reality into the arena. The new platform they are building, Q.reality, will layer augmented reality over the real world. Users will be able to see updated stats, replays, and other pieces of information in real-time. Read more here.
2. Meta Moonwalk
Meta Immersive Learning is partnering with the Smithsonian for a virtual reality experience within the museum’s “Future” exhibit. From May 4th to June 6th of this year, visitors are able to experience what it is like to walk on the surface of the moon. 50 years after the Apollo missions, visitors can experience the view and conversations the astronauts had when they landed on the moon. 3. X-Ray Vision
Augmented Reality technologies are being developed that would allow surgeons to see the insides of a patient without having to first open them up. A virtual 3-D map of a patient’s organs would be projected layered on top of their body in the real world. It is currently understood that it will be a few years still before this technology is perfected, but x-ray vision is not as far away as we may think. Read more here.
4. Concert and Festival AR
Snapchat AR has teamed up with Live Nation to bring another layer of entertainment to select concerts and festivals. These events will be brought to life with augmented reality content to enhance a fan’s experience. As well as AR tools, allowing fans to track their friends and try on merchandise. The first festival to debut this technology will be the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas from May 20th to May 22nd of this year.
5. Check Out The Winners Of The XR Awards
The shortlist of finalists for the XR awards was announced on May 6th and the XR Awards ceremony for 2022 took place on May 26th. Check out the winners here for inspiration on your next project.
