At ROSE, we are constantly looking for advancements and inspiration within the XR community. Check out some of the latest XR experiences making a splash in our December/January XR round-up!

1. AR Hits the Slopes

Ostloong Innovations has recently shared their newest piece of technology, a pair of augmented reality ski goggles. The objective of this new gear is to, “totally change navigation, communication, and safety in the mountains” according to Ostloong. The goggles feature GPS, built-in cellular data, and an HD camera that allows for live streaming. All while using Ostloong’s OUTDOOR Reality Display® technology.

2. Get Active with Chiptole

Chipotle has teamed up with Snap Inc. to launch an augmented reality lens that aims to help users stick to ether new year’s fitness resolutions. This filter came out alongside Chipotle’s new line of healthy Lifestyle Bowls targeted toward GenZ and Millenials. Chief marketing officer at Chipotle, Chris Brandt shared that Chipotle is “making new year’s resolutions fun by gamifying the experience and offering balanced meals made with real ingredients that you feel good eating”. And if that is not enough motivation, they are also offering free guac to 100,000 participants.

3. Welcome to The Motorverse

Innovative company, holoride, is known for its revolutionizing in-car entertainment. The technology they have created can be used to browse, stream, and play fully immersive VR games all while in the seat of a car. Their mission to turn vehicles into moving theme parks has become more accessible than ever with the release of their holoride retrofit. This device makes it possible for holoride’s “elastic content” to be brought into any vehicle using Bluetooth technology.

4. Apple Takes on MR

Bloomberg has shared a report on the current development of Apple’s mixed reality headset, the Reality Pro. The device is set to have an interface that reflects Apple’s traditional iOS software. The headset will also integrate popular Apple tools such as FaceTime, Safari, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and even Siri. This headset will have the capability to switch between Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, while also featuring spatial audio and motion tracking.

Apple shared that the Reality Pro could be officially announced as early as this spring, and available as soon as autumn.

5. A Cookie Lover’s Dream: The Oreoverse

OREO has created its own metaverse experience to celebrate the launch of its newest flavor, The Most OREO OREO. The two classic chocolate cookies sandwich a cookies-n-creme flavored cream– creating an OREO flavored OREO. By scanning a pack of this new flavor, users are able to “dunk” into the OREOVERSE available via Horizon World. Within the experience, customers are able to play a variety of OREO-themed games for a chance to win $50,000.

6. McDonald’s Celebrates the Year of the Rabbit

McDonald’s partnered with digital content creator Karen X Cheng to create an interactive experience to celebrate Lunar New Year. This campaign includes an Instagram filter that visualizes the transformation from Year of the Tiger to Year of the Rabbit. There is also a Metaverse experience that allows users to come together to celebrate and acts as a space to hold special events for the holiday. These events included a Year of the Rabbit celebration that occurred last week.

“Teaming up with McDonald’s to create a campaign that not only leans into my passions as a creator but also my cultural identity is a dream come true,” Cheng shared.
