1. Coachella’s Mirage

Coachella embraced all things AR this year to create a heightened immersive experience for attendees. The Mirage, as they called it, was made up of several interactive experiences for users to engage with throughout the festival. When visiting featured art installations, attendees could bring them to life through augmented reality and were encouraged to capture and share content. They were also able to participate in an AR scavenger hunt throughout the festival grounds, sharing their experience with the hashtag #GatherTogether. Several festival artists also embraced the use of AR with interactive elements and face filters to match their Coachella sets.

4. Celebrating Earth Day in VR

Felix and Paul Studios released their latest Space Explorers virtual reality series, just in time for Earth Day. Blue Marble is a 360 degree film that was shot outside of the International Space Station that takes viewers on a flight around planet Earth. The team shared that the film allows viewers to “Experience the awe-inspiring ‘Overview Effect,’ the profound realization astronauts experience when they witness our planet from low Earth orbit”.

The first part of the series is now available for free on Meta Quest, Quest 2, and Quest Pro VR headsets.

5. Chatting with AI

Artificial Intelligence has become increasingly popular with the emergence of ChatGBT. OpenAI introduced their AI chatbot as “ a model which interacts in a conversational way. The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests”. The technology is being explored and embraced by many different industries, one of which being extended reality.

Several large immersive tech companies are experimenting with their own artificial intelligence chatbots, Snapchat being one as they recently introduced MyAI.

Tune in next month for our April/May Round Up!
