XR Round-Up October/November ‘22

At ROSE, we are constantly looking for advancements and inspiration within the XR community. Check out some of the latest XR experiences making a splash in our October/November XR round-up!

1. Sony’s Mocopi Motion Capture

Sony has announced its latest tech venture, the Mocopi motion capture system. It is composed of 6 motion tracking bands meant to be worn on different parts of the body, in order to record a user’s movements. The data collected by the system can connect to a user’s phone via Bluetooth to be used in youtube videos and social media platforms. The bands are also compatible with 3D software, such as Unity.

2. Stranger Things to Enter VR

Netflix has partnered with Tender Claws to create a VR game based on its series Stranger Things. Users will step into the game and take on the role of the villain from season 4, Vecna. Players explore key elements of the series storyline from a “never-before-seen perspective” according to Tender Claws.

This game is set to launch in winter of 2023, with no release date announced currently.

3. A New Way to Navigate Reality

As a company, Google is constantly exploring new technologies to create the best possible experiences for users. In the most recent update, Google Maps gained augmented reality features to make it that much easier for users to find their way to their destination.

4. PlayStation VR2 Set to Launch

This month Sony announced the release date for the PlayStation VR2 headset. It is not set to hit the market until February 22, 2023 but buyers are currently able to sign-up for presale through PlayStations official online storefront. The new device is loaded with all of the latest immersive tech features. Including eye tracking, spatial audio and haptics.

The headset is priced at $549.99 with game and system bundle packages available for $599.99.

5. VRChat Entertainment Network

Social platform VRChat is ringing in 2023 by launching its very own Entertainment Network. To celebrate the new year, and new network, they will be hosting their first video stream on December 31st. It will consist of both live and prerecorded entertainment, featuring family-friendly content submitted by VRChat users from all over the metaverse.

6. The Lensa AI Takeover

Lensa AI is a photo editing app that has been around for over 4 years but has just recently spiked to the top of the app store charts. The influx in users this last month was largely due to the new “magic avatar” feature they created. With this feature, a user can upload images of themself to the app and artificial intelligence creates multiple artistic avatars of the user.

This feature is not free, but for $3.99 the AI generates 50 images.

7. A #Pricless Experience

ROSE teamed up with Mastercard™ to create a #Priceless immersive experience for cardholders. Using augmented reality, users are able to enter the Miami Design District and explore 7 featured pieces of art from the collection. Each has a written description and audio paired with it for users to learn the history of the piece.
