A Brand New Offer for Uber Riders: Get Uber Credits when Using the Cargo App to Purchase Items While Riding!

Today marks the official launch of Cargo’s mobile application

Cargo is a commerce platform which, by partnering with a diverse group of brands, allows for a convenient array of useful supplies to be bought while riding in an Uber. The idea entices Uber drivers through the opportunity to earn money through his or her distribution of the products and the improvement of the rider’s experience and consequent rating.

One of the standout features of the app is its brand new ecommerce marketplace. Passengers will be able to shop from the app during Uber rides with Cargo drivers. Cargo Store offers riders 10% rewards in the form of Uber Cash, which can be spent on future rides and/ or Cargo Store items. Uber riders may purchase anything while they ride; a kit-kat bar, pair of earbuds, or lip balm from the Cargo console in the vehicle or a Nintendo Switch, Away suitcase, or Amazon Echo from the new app. These larger items are then delivered to the customer’s house within 3–5 business days. Drivers earn a 25% commission from the products already in car or $1 for every first purchase made by their passenger through the app. This system allows the driver to be more profitable while naturally allowing Uber to tap into a new market: e-commerce.

The experience improves ratings for both the driver and company. Last year, Cargo partnered with Uber to become their sole commerce provider worldwide. Cargo and Uber have partnered with Universal Studios to offer discounts on movies and TV shows on the Movies Anywhere app. This feature targets the Uber riders taking longer trips (such as to and from the airport).
