In the Eye of the Storm

With nowhere to go, nothing to do but wait

Image by Author during Hurricane Ian

In
The eye
Of
The storm,
Patiently
Watching
For the shift
Of these fierce winds
North to south;
Storm surge rising
Waves now crashing through
Past the sea wall
With nowhere to go
Nothing to do but wait
Sheltering in place
The only option left,
Well prepared and wide awake.
We made the choice to stay
Now the chance to leave has passed
The brutal threat stands face to face;
We do our best to stay calm
As the winds and rain rage on
Musing how prayers might turn a storm.
Nature decides to run riot
Will God reach in again to rescue us
When we threaten the plan, the great design?
An eagle in full flight falls backward
Before our eyes his failed efforts to fly
Shift our priorities fast against the gale
As we wait for the grace of the storm’s break.
