DJI Mavic Pro: Best 4K UHD Sharpness Comparison

When it comes to the Mavic Pro, the most common wisdom is to set the video resolution to 2.7k, with the sharpness setting to +1. This produced very decent footage for most use, and it is what I shoot with most of the time. However, knowing this little quadcopter can actually record in 4K UHD (and even true 4K), I am curious on how good or bad the footage will be.

I set up a quick test, using DJI GO 4 app’s Waypoint mode, so I can preset one waypoint mission with the Mavic and run it over and over with different sharpness settings.

The setup

  • Aircraft firmware version: 01.03.0700
  • DJI GO 4 version: 4.0.8
  • Video settings: 4K UHD (3840x2160) @ 30fps
  • Color mode: D-Log
  • Contrast settings set to -3
  • Saturation settings set to 0

From the looks of it, anything below 0 will start turning the trees into a mush. In my opinion, the sharpness 0 or +1 would be a good setting to use. I am inclined to go for sharpness at 0 and do the sharpening in post-production.
