In the article “Schools around the US are finally pushing back their start times — and it’s working,” written by Chris Weller, the author writes of the benefits and disadvantages of having later start times for High School students. Weller argues that the later start times will benefit the students study habits and sleep schedules. However, Weller acknowledges later start times aren’t perfect and “schools that have followed through with delaying the first bell have run into challenges.” However he counters this argument with the claim that though it might have its drawbacks it is easier to see the obstacles then to see the gain. The author is very civil in his disagreement and makes his argument very subtle. In this article Weller does not reference another next or author, therefore making his claim a bit weak. However he was able to counter this topic in a more general level without having to “dissent” another authors work. I believe this article countered the argument effectively, but the author could have added more specific examples and data to counter the opposing side.
