Background

The conjuring is a well-loved movie based on a true story, coming out in 2013 and racking up a pretty good following of people who enjoyed the movie when it first came out and still enjoy it to this day. The conjuring depicts a story set in 1971 which is focused on paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren who would give different lectures abroad the US, They have seen many different cases of the paranormal but they had been planning on retirement in the near future until they are told of a family of seven who claim that there is an evil presence in their home in Rhode Island. Without long they realize that there is something supernatural going on in the home, but what does it want, and what could it be?

This movie earned its R-rating on one thing and one thing only, the scares. In the movie there is practically no sex, no cursing, and no gore. Those things are usually what gets a movie topped with an R-rating, but this movie has just the right amount of scares just to be given that self-deserved R-rating it has.

Upon looking online, you will see quite a lot of positive reviews from horror film fanatics around the globe. One reviewer said “The conjuring is better, scarier, and more tense than insidious. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it is one of the best horror movies of the last five or ten years.” When this movie came out many believed it to be a movie you sure did not want to miss “10/10 Don’t miss this one, it is an amazing theater viewing experience.”

This movie is filled with a lot of suspense and will keep you guessing throughout the movie, for some it can be a movie of terror where you can only watch through the cracks of your fingers for fear of being too scared of what you are about to see. But for others it can be a true testament to what a good horror movie looks like.

When you look around the web a long with the positive ratings there will also be some negative ones as well, just like any good movie there will always be people who strongly dislike the movie for various reasons. One review said, “first off, the whole hype about the “doll” has nothing to do with the whole plot of the haunted house the family just moved into.” The thing about this is that the plot with the doll would be found in many other movies which would be connected to this movie, adding the doll was just to give an insight to what future movies would portray. Some have disliked this movie so much that they would call it a piece of crap that has an uninteresting plot. Some say that the Director James Wan who was also the director of the movie Saw failed to match the entertainment levels of his other films.

I can see where some people may be coming from with the whole doll not being anywhere in the movie but just in the beginning, but I feel that if they had the knowledge then that there would be movies in the future that all tied together then they wouldn’t have felt the same about this movie. I believe that if they knew movies were coming out later on down the road then they would be a little more at ease with the doll not being in the movie, There is seven other films somewhat related to the conjuring where they would either show the same parts from one movie to another or just go into more depth about what was seen in a different movie.

Me having seen the movies that all connect together I would say that it is worth the wait because you realize so much more having been able to see all the stories line up. I really enjoyed that “ahhh” moment when you finally put all of your missing pieces together because you are either fascinated by how they were connected or annoyed because you couldn’t figure it out until a ways down the road.

And even without seeing all the other movies around the same time I still would not say that this is the worst scary movie I have seen because trust me there is so many crappy scary movies made before and after this one. And in all honesty a lot of people will just try to pick at one small thing that they notice and try to blow it out of the water just to try and make the movie seem like it is complete trash or that the director has no idea what they are doing which tends to give lots of people mixed feelings on if they want to see the movie or not.

I do wish that this movie had come out later on because I feel that every year the technology used to make movies just gets better which means that some spots in the movie that the graphics were a little out of whack or just did not make sense possibly could have been fixed with the newer technology and techniques used years after the actual release date.

Conclusion

I cannot say you will one hundred percent love this movie, but I can say that the chances of you one hundred percent hating it are at very slim no matter how much you enjoy or dislike scary movies. I will say just give it a shot because you know how the saying goes “Don’t knock it until you try it”

All in all if you are a big fan of watching scary movies at all the random times of night and day then this should definitely be a movie you watch whether you have already seen it once or a thousand times over because it truly doesn’t get old, so grab some of that good buttery popcorn and sit down and enjoy the ride with this scary movie.
