Meet the Editors

Assem Kroma

belongs to a new generation of filmmakers. He has a passion for all of its forms, starting from photochemical films and ending with VR 360 films. He is currently researching in the fields of new media, interactive and transmedia storytelling as well as virtual, augmented and mixed realities. He believes that the filmmaking scene is about to take a new creative turn, that requires technically equipped filmmakers who can take the challenge on and keep sharing their art with the public.

Aaron Labbé

is a mad-identified intermedia artist based in Toronto, Canada. The driving-force of his work includes concepts drawn from the topics of empathy, the psyche, madness narratives, mental health discourse and explorations of human consciousness. His specialities include interactive experience design, data visualization, experimental music practices, spatial sound design and computational art.

Ayat Salih

is a second year Media Production student and an intern at the Transmedia Zone with the VR project Kariakoo. She is also an organizer with Black Liberation Collective at Ryerson (BLC), a political student group focused on combating anti-Black racism. She hosts a weekly SpiritLive show called In Intolerance where she discuss, with my partner, the different forms of discrimination on campuses in Ontario.

Deborah L Smith

is Cree Métis originally from Northern Alberta. As a student in the Masters of Media Production program, she is finding her voice as a Creative Scholar. She brings experience as an Independent producer, writer and artist. She hopes to develop strong relationships with Settler Ally and Indigenous communities here in Toronto and to join forces with like-minded artists, creatives, and organizations that want to see Indigenous voices and talents grow on a global scale.

Emma Brito

is an associate at the Transmedia Zone and a graduate student in OcadU’s Digital Futures program. She is interested in interactive media to find new ways to tell the old stories we all love.

Hailey Krychman

is a writer and producer with a Master of Arts in Media Production from Ryerson University. Her written work has been published in Rough Draft and HerCampus McGill. She is currently an Associate working with the Inappropriate Questions podcast at the Transmedia Zone. She lives in Toronto, Ontario.

Michael Smilovitch

is a Master of Digital Media candidate with a background in cognitive science, english literature, and game development. He is a team lead at the Transmedia Zone on BirdQuest VR — a surreal comedy experience that turns VR gaming into a hilarious social activity. When spending in non-virtual reality, he sings for the progressive metal band Bird Problems. He is also quite fond of soup.

Nuff

has a hard time colouring inside the lines. He makes apps, brand identities and installations. His work spans commerce and culture, art and design. He is collaboratively exploring spatial interaction paradigms at the Design Fabrication Zone and developing his artistic practice as part of the 2018–19 Akin Studio Program at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Toronto.
