As more and more Play to Earn (P2E) games on blockchain enter the market, I’m always on the lookout to find the hidden gem, the ultimate game that has it all: great graphics and gameplay are a must, but it must also have P2E mechanics that make sense and really allows one to earn from the game.

Today, I’d like to tell you about one that has it all: Heroes of NFT, a turn-based card game, built on one of the best blockchains out there, Avalanche.

The gameplay — Jump into the arena

Heroes of NFT (HON) is a Collectible Card Game. Magic: The Gathering, created in 1993, is probably the most famous game in this category, where each player has a deck of cards with specific characteristics.

In HON the most important characteristics of the cards, called HRO cards, are:

  • The attack power, at the left bottom (sword icon).
  • The defense power, at the right bottom, (shield icon).

When you play HON, your goal is to bring your opponent’s health to zero by using attack cards, while of course keeping your own health level high by using defense cards. Players choose three cards in their deck of ten and need to develop the best strategy to win turn-based fights.

They can play against each other in Player versus Player (PvP) mode or the game’s servers in Player versus Environment (PvE) mode.

The NFT assets in HON

All the cards available to the players are coded on the blockchain in the form of NFTs, each of them with unique characteristics: attack and defense power and rarity levels that rank from common to legendary.

HON also offers a rich ecosystem of in-game assets that will allow players to customize their Heroes and give them extra power. Here is a non-exhaustive list of these assets, also coded in NFTs:

  • Spell cards.
  • Weapons.
  • Cosmetics.

All these NFTs, Heroes and customization cards, will be tradeable on an in-game marketplace.

Play to Earn in HON

HON offers several ways for players to earn money while playing. Let’s detail these. There are two in-game tokens: HRM and HON. HRM tokens are in infinite supply and are not sold directly to users but can be won by playing the game. HON is the “premium token” with a finite supply. It will be available outside the game, on trading platforms.

Heroes Reward Money (HRM) is the in-game currency. Players will need HRM to pay the entry fee to play the different game modes (PvP, PvE) and will earn HRM by winning fights in the arena. Items like potions, spell cards, power-ups… will be priced in HRM.

HON Token is the governance token of HON and has the following characteristics:

  • DeFi: one can mint HON by providing liquidity.
  • Hold to play: holding a minimum of 1000 HON will be mandatory to access the PvP “battle serious” mode where players are ranked and the top rated will earn large rewards.
  • List items on the marketplace: will require burning HON.
  • HRO cards will be priced in HON
  • Governance decisions such as NFT prices.

But the unique feature of HON and the most interesting one in my opinion is the HON/NFT staking. Let me show you why I think it’s important.

Workers — key actors in the HON ecosystem

Workers are defined by the HON team as

people who do not play the game as much as gamers but want to generate income from the Heroes of NFT ecosystem. They will spend AVAX to buy Hero character NFTs to stake together with HON Token to generate HSP [Hero Super Powers] NFTs and HIT [Hero Items] NFTs for the gamers.

Let me reformulate that: workers take part in the ecosystem that will choose to stake both HON and HRO NFTs rather than play the game. They will be rewarded by the minting of in-game items and special power up cards. Those in return can be listed in the marketplace and thus generate passive revenues for the workers.

Avalanche ecosystem

When it comes to blockchain games, the choice of the network is very important: it has to be fast with low transaction fees.

The CEO of HON is an early investor and validator of Avalanche network, one of the fastest and cheapest to transact on blockchain: it offers up to 4,500 transactions per second which are confirmed within a second and cost a fraction of a dollar.

Choosing Avalanche was a no brainer as this network has no similar project to Heroes of NFT yet.
