A sports blog about nothing.

Well, almost nothing.

The aftermath of the Miracle on Techwood Drive (10/24/16 — credit: Akshay Easwaran)

Sports have always been part of our lives. Whether we’ve been sprinting to the finish in the pool, standing on our toes and watching the action unfold with feverish anticipation at football games, or relaxing in the upper deck of a ballpark carefully making note of the plays below, our lives have been defined and moulded by sports and how we interact with them.

The news we digest and things we talk about reflect this great power that sports commands over our lives. To us, sports aren’t something ephemeral; you don’t just come and go as you please and interact at your leisure. Sports are all-encompassing and enveloping — they make up a living, breathing entity that evolves as we evolve and brings us closer together.

But enough of the sappy backstory. The short version here is that two Georgia Tech students loved sports so much that they decided to start a site to write about it. We’re not trying to “change the way you think about sports” or “change the world of sports news”; we’re just two idiots who decided that since what we said about sports sounded semi-intelligent, we should put it on the Internet. We don’t really know who’ll read our ramblings, and frankly, we don’t really care. We don’t do this for an audience, fame, money, or anything; like all great athletes (well, some of them anyway), we do this for the love of the game.

With that being said, let’s meet the team behind R41R:

Jake Grant (Editor, Lake Shore Drive)

Akshay Easwaran (Editor, Northside Drive)

Were you looking for more than our names and titles? Perhaps a couple of sentences about what each of us will be writing about? Wow, you readers are so needy these days.

Let’s try this again.

Jake Grant (Editor, Lake Shore Drive)

“A long-suffering Cubs fan from birth, and by that, I mean 19 years, I hail from the near west suburbs of Chicago. An avid baseball fan, hockey enthusiast, and basketball observer, don’t expect much about the Bears. At all. You can turn to literally the rest of Chicago sports media for that; they’re always talking about it. We have a soccer team? Anyways, I’m a Ramblin’ Reck from Georgia Tech and a helluva engineer. And occasional writer of sports fiction. So I really don’t know why you’d ever read what we’re writing, especially if you’re from Atlanta, but hey if you’ve made it this far, this extremely niche blog is for you. Da Bulls, Da Cubs, Da Hawks, Da Sox, and Da Jackets. Go figure. 28–3.”

Akshay Easwaran (Editor, Northside Drive)

“Peace-up, A-town down. If you’ve come across this site after I told you about it, then you already know I’m a huge Atlanta sports fan, almost to egregiously obnoxious levels. If you’ve just stumbled across our little niche on the Internet, now you know. If you want to read page after page about why the Braves will return to their 90s prominence, the wonder of the 96 Olympics, the Falcons’ playoff woes, Atlanta United’s electric brand of soccer, Georgia Tech’s consistent inconsistency, and complaints about blown leads, you’re in the right place (for better or for worse). If you didn’t want to hear about any of that stuff, well tough — you’re gonna listen anyway.”

Now that we have that lengthy introduction and the writer bios out of the way, it’s time to answer some FAQs:

Why are you called Route 41 Resurgens?

US Route 41 connects our two hometowns: Chicago and Atlanta. Resurgens is on the Atlanta city seal and pretty accurately describes the state of all of the teams we follow.

What should readers expect from you?

You have expectations? That’s a bold strategy, Cotton.

But in earnest, you can expect coverage of most major Chicago and Atlanta pro sports teams, as well as Georgia Tech’s sports scene. We aim to provide savvy sports analysis and opinions with a sense of humor. We started R41R as something to do for fun, so we won’t take ourselves too seriously and put out anything stiffly professional.

Are there sports/teams/topics you won’t cover?

Well, yeah. This is something we do for fun — we aren’t bound by deadlines or forced to cover certain content. We write whatever we want to write about, and considering what we like to talk about, there are some things we will choose to avoid. As to what they are, we’ll leave that as an exercise for the reader.

Will you ever not be snarky?

No.

Are you going to apologize in advance for the bad jokes you both tell?

Definitely not.

Will I enjoy this site?

Probably not. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
