more than awareness.
Men with grave accents
and women with worried mouths
gathered around
all grey and grim
under the bridge.
They say
It always seems to come down to
Us and them
in and outsiders
And I guess thats okay,
but why is it always me on the bottom?
When you’re in the right place
at the wrong time
people stare.
They hate it.
Then it’s you on the chopping block
and your face as the example
“Don’t screw up.”
“Don’t speak up.”
“Don’t feel bad.”
Because their worldview is
One mistake and you’re out
The squeaky wheel doesn’t get grease,
It gets removed.
Feelings are your fault, so suck it up.
How is that fair?
It isn’t.
But only time will tell
if that can change.
If we can change.
If I can change.
