stepping stones

I want to be a stepping stone for others.
Be the firm place in this rat race
when everything is wrong.
Be the safe space
In their hearts’ circle of friends

When the curtain falls
And the walls feel
Higher than they said they’d be on the back of the box,
when you first looked up at the sky.
When the thirst first struck
And you wondered why.
Like a cave full of sandy, dry bones,
Never rotting,
Never living just the same.
Waiting on the cold and the grave.

Ask me why.
I want to be the answer to those feelings because I’ve been there too.
At the corner of lost and beginning.
At the soft spot between You and Them.
Use me to skip the lonely
And the getting there.
I want to be your stepping stone.
