Can A Refurbished Laptop Catapult a Child Out of Poverty?

No. Computers can’t immediately solve the “wealth gap”. But they do help lift people out of poverty over time.

Take this hypothetical character as an example.

Ly Nguyen came here from Vietnam. Her parents toil 16 hours a day in hot, fetid, dirty restaurants, earning less than minimum wage. So they can’t even think of getting her a computer.

More fortunate children fill their research papers with Googled information, getting everything they need at almost the speed of light, but not Ly. She spends hours in the library waiting for computer time.

If, however, Ly did get a laptop, she might use it to study Math, English or even Website Design. And with that knowledge, she could supplement her family income and help raise it out of poverty.

That’s where RRRcomputer.org comes in. We refurbish donated laptops so disadvantaged kids and their families can pursue the American dream.
