“My name is Khan” is the story of a Republican candidate in Reno, Nev. who also happens to be Muslim. His dreams of running for office have been put on hold, perhaps permanently.

Adam Khan has made splashes in the Republican Party for a couple of years now. Khan was chairman of the Washoe County Republican Party before resigning to pursue a run for Sparks City Council in the 2016 election. Khan would have been the first Pakistani-American to hold office in Nevada if elected.

However, Khan lost in the primaries to Denise Lopez. Even though Khan had the endorsements of the Nevada’s Builders Association, The Chamber of Commerce and many other state politicians, it wasn’t enough.

Khan has been featured on CNN, MSNBC and Face the Nation speaking out against Donald Trump since the beginning of Trump’s rise to be the Republican nominee for president.

Khan has faced many challenges being a Muslim American and Trump’s rhetoric has made him feel unwelcome in his own party. Unfortunately, the outcome of this election could spell the end of politics for Khan.
