It seems Kylie Jenner’s fame and fortune was effortlessly granted to her through her family’s famous name and her ability to utilize social media platforms to their fullest potential.

Her current Instagram following of 106 million people is the ideal place for any company to market their brand and is what allowed Kylie to enhance her social recognition. She is unarguably one of the most influential people in society today — setting fashion trends and even trends of thought, daily.

Kylie Jenner is a 21 year old model, entrepreneur, social media personality and reality TV star. While some people may shame Kylie Jenner for her pure obtainment of fortune for “illegitimate reasons” — I beg to differ… but I also kind of have to agree.

Kylie Jenner, luckily born into the privileged Kardashian-Jenner family, first appeared to the public when she was only 9 years old on reality TV show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Since an early age, Kylie had a piercing personality that was almost certain to aid her future success.

In recent years, Kylie has worked and partnered with brands like OPI, Puma, Nike, Steve Madde, PacSun, Topshop, Balmain and Beats; but her real success is derived from her cosmetics line — Kylie Kosmetics. Kylie Jenner is the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Creative Officer of her said to be worth, $500 million dollar company. Beginning in 2015, Kylie Kosmetics released 3 lip kits (including a lip-liner and a lipstick) that sold out completely in less than 60 seconds. Since then, she has expanded her brand immensely — selling many more cometic products and obtaining loyal customers — taking the industry by storm.

In addition to her brand, Kylie rocks all of the top designers daily, and makes sure to show it off on social media platforms, as well as on her personal, monthly subscription based app.

People often question Kylie’s success and whether or not she would be where she is now, if she wasn’t born into a rich and powerful family in Hollywood. So why is she so successful and appealing to the public eye? Is it because of her fake lips, cheeks, nose, hair, butt and overuse of the waist trainer that make her look nearly perfect — allowing for the perfect marketing opportunity and aesthetically appealing public persona? Or are her business practices and social media management skills and presence actually ground-breakingly-brilliant to our consumer culture?

Well, I’d have to say it’s a bit of both. In my opinion, Kylie, not being born into money, would not be where she is today. At the same time though, she used her publicized life to absolutely conquer the fashion industry and change social media forever.

THE FACTS

  1. Kylie’s controversial acts

Kylie has been slandered multiple times and accused of cultural appropriation. The photo above is from a photoshoot that received comments declaring that Kylie was taking part in “black face”, an untrue statement but a controversial set of photos that undoubtably gained the publics attention — important for any influencer and success story.

2. Kylie’s love life and friend group

Kylie Jenner’s association and close ties with A-list celebrities allow her actions to be publicized on a heightened level. She is often seen with Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin, Jaden Smith and many more models, actors, athletes, artists and public figures, and her relationship status with well known rapper Travis Scott, is always Buzzworthy.

3. Kylie’s aesthetic/visual marketing

Kylie Jenner is one of the only people who can actually get away with posting 15 photos from the same event — in the same outfit. Her ability to showcase her unique style and creative expression is vital to her success as a model and an influencer.

4. Lavish lifestyle

Kylie cant even count the number of cars….

…handbags…

…shoes…

…diamonds…and gold…that she owns. And she is SURE to show it off — portraying the most ideal and dreamt-of lifestyle.

5. Kylie’s use of Snapchat, Instagram, and Twitter

Finally, Kylie is able to manage her posts, followers, likes and comments, and interactions better than most. She makes sure to frequently post relevant, sought-after material and gets a reaction, every. single. time.

So… What?…

Kylie Jenner flaunts over 100 million followers on Instagram, she’s the most-followed celebrity on Snapchat, her app is on the top chart in the App Store’s entertainment category, she’s at the beginning of a high-demand cosmetics company, she runs a clothing line with her model sister Kendall, and she continuously scores massive endorsements with huge brands. Tie that all together with a few more projects here and there and her self proclaimed nickname, “King Kylie”, might actually be a reality. Kylie’s success is also due to a continuation of conversation evoking and idolized actions and she isn’t on the slow-down to her success.

Whether it’s her controversial hair styles, poses and fashion choices that get the people talking and become universal trends; her partnerships that make her and other companies millions; her lavish lifestyle that is idolized and praised; her rich and famous friend and family groups that always place attention on her and her where-abouts; her multimillion dollar brand that took over the cosmetics industry; or her ability to take Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter by storm — Kylie Jenner is undoubtably an aesthetically appealing, trend setting and worshiped phenomenon — all thanks to social media.

And although I don’t necessarily call myself a fan of the Kardashians or Jenners, I absolutely look up to them and their ability to influence billions and make billion, and their success must be respected. So… fake or not, all of the Kardashian-Jenner clan have been dominating multiple industries, for years.

Recently a mother, I am excited to see how Kylie’s social media behaviour changes and to see how her daughter Stormi, will use her same lucky upbringing, to take the next generation by storm, just like Kylie.
