Danielle Bregoli, now 14, has become an internet sensation and international meme. Now starring in music videos and podcasts, Bregoli even has her own clothing merch to go with her A-list celebrity status. But, she didn’t just wake up and become relevant, just like most famous people don’t just wake up on Sunday morning, suddenly celebrities. Traditionally, fame comes with talent, skill, or at least some charm and charisma. Now, irrelevant nobodies can become icons in a mere 24 hours: which is exactly what happened to Ms.Danielle Bregoli, commonly referred to as the “Cash Me Outside” girl.

Before her rise to fame, Danielle was invited to the Dr. Phil show along with her mother, in attempt to “manage her delinquency and rebellious behaviour”. This episode featured the young girl admitting to physically hurting her mother on countless occasions, stealing from her family, and even verbally attacks her own mom on stage. The audience, obviously shocked by her attitude and wretched speech, were oohing and booing after every single comment she made. Danielle is very easily aggravated, which I’m sure is apart of her “bad ass don’t mess with me” facade, and so the audiences reactions were an opportunity for her to snap back at the crowd.

Her words, “cash me outside, how bow dah?” blew up practically overnight, used as captions for photos, hashtags and catch phrases by others. Her instant popularity seemed surreal: how was she famous? People try for years and years to make it big for whatever talent they might have, and she, gets famous for being a spoiled brat?

After air, Bregoli was typed into Instagram search bars at breakneck speed. Ironically enough, she didn’t even have an online platform for herself, no profile, no hilarious mirror pictures of her with rap lyrics as the caption, no nothing. To say the least, the public was disappointed. Internet trolls turned to make fake accounts of her, claiming her authenticity with selfies previously sourced from her private Facebook profile. These Instagram accounts went viral instantaneously, gaining hundreds of thousands of followers in just a few hours after creation. Bregoli saw the publics interest in her and proceeded to make her own, official Instagram page, known as bhadbhabie. The same day, Bregoli’s fake accounts have perished the platform, and she is verified with millions of followers.

This character is of controversial nature, but not the book-smart type of controversial, more like mindless idiocy of popular culture, including inaudible slang plated with disrespect to authority, which makes it that much more appealing to the adolescent public. It’s seriously hard to not listen to whatever comes out of her mouth, because it’s so damn stupid; and it’s difficult to ignore that degree stupidity.

But, is Bregoli really the big idiot everyone thinks she is? Or, is she a 14 year old entrepreneurial genius who staged her rebelliousness in order to monetize this persona so the public will in turn, idolize her for her savagery? After her rise to fame, Danielle has topped the charts on music streaming sites like Apple Music and Spotify with her hit single “Hi Bich”, released a popular merchandise line with her famous catchphrase, “cash me outside” and has even collaborated with universally-known rap artists like Kodak Black. Her music career doesn’t stop there; she’s going on a world tour, along with her manager and number one supporter, her very own mama! Oh, the irony. Family really is there ’til the very end, at least until your failures as a parent have turned into fiscal fortune!

Celebrities like the Kardashian family and Selena Gomez have been interviewed on multiple occasions demanding their opinion on this young girls skyrocket to fame. All have proudly said that they entirely support her success! Their promotion of Bregoli’s popularity makes it seem that much more okay for other young people to see this as a method to become viral as well, which has set off an alarming domino affect.

Now, young girls reach out to the Dr. Phil Show with plea for help, that they too, cannot live amongst their unaccepting and overbearing families. These girls will inevitably get on the show, because due to past trends, these types of young ladies get Dr.Phil tons of views, millions to be exact, so he’s happy to have ‘em! After Bregoli, dozens of “bhad bhabies” arise from their middle school classrooms, crying wolf that their lives are falling apart thanks to their parents. And here we are, a cycle of young, teenage girls with bandanas tied around their heads, practicing and flashing their ‘bad-girl’ facade loud and proud to the world, hoping they too, will have their chance at the spotlight one day.
