Danielle Bregoli cashes in, not ousside
Danielle Bregoli, better known as the ‘cash me ousside’ girl, was just 13 years old when she appeared on an episode of Doctor Phil in 2017. Nobody could have predicted that she would be transformed into one of the biggest internet memes of the year. The thing is that memes are almost always impossible to predict or purposefully create, it is in their nature. However, Danielle took the shock of her new-found fame and — for better or for worse — did something with it… a lot of things.
Let me reiterate: this young girl, born and raised in Boynton, Florida, was only thirteen when her life got turned upside down. People came to assume the worst in her, and this pre-teenage girl was forced to accept the fact that this meme would be the one thing that people would always remember her for. Whether she wanted to change that or capitalize on it, Danielle Bregoli was not just going to sit around and let this opportunity pass her by.
With her new-found stardom, Danielle, now 14 years old, has a Youtube channel with over 3.5 million subscribers, several original songs released on Spotify, and a new stagename (Bhad Bhabie) name to boot. She even threatened to sue Walmart for using the phrase ‘Cash me ousside how bout dah’ on their clothing — this girl means business. The word ‘Bhad’ is quite fitting as well. Danielle’s music is… interesting, and her Youtube content is vulgar and brash to say the least. She seems to be intent on keeping up this image of, for lack of a better term, baddassery. Of course, I am not here to judge. In fact, I applaud her for brushing off the hate comments that she must get on a daily basis, and for turning here meme-status into something so much more. However, I fear that this kind of fame and fortune at such a young age will be detrimental to her in the long run.
You do not have to look very hard to find young stars like Danielle that seemingly buckled under the pressure. Most of these stars started out wholesome and ended up taking a turn for the worse. Danielle herself wasn’t always trying to project an image of angst and rebellion, she even nursed her mom through chemo back in Florida. There are stories of success though. Rebecca Black, famous for her Youtube video ‘Friday’, continues to post new music six years later, and has become friends with many other social media influencers.
Whatever my or the rest of the world’s opinion of Danielle Bregoli are, it is impossible to deny that she is currently a financial success. Danielle has a net worth of over 1.2 million dollars right now. She has over 12 million Instagram followers. This girl is, by any standards, famous. The self-awareness that she must have had to come this far in such a little amount of time is incredible. I just hope that awareness stays with her and that she is able to dip out of the limelight if and when she is ready.
