Actors, comedians, singers, social media influencers and other creators can leverage their earning potential if they strategically use their social media following. These creators can also use their large social media following to help them earn deals in traditional media and performance settings. I believe that with the right strategy and a strong enough movement, a variety of powerful social media creators will be able to earn more money for their talents. Already, we can see that some creators have been able to strategically utilize this promotional strategy. However, many are struggling to maximize their earning potential.

Jake Paul Case Study

Jake Paul is a daily vlogger on YouTube with over fourteen million subscribers and was a previous Vine comedian star. He used his large social media status to secure himself an acting job. Jake Paul was on a Disney Channel show called Bizaardvark where he played Dirk Mann (Bizaardvark 1). One of the primary reasons that Disney Channel hired him is because Jake Paul leveraged his social media clout to earn him the role. However, Jake Paul missed the opportunity to take this new television deal and leverage his income further. Jake Paul often promoted the show in Instagram posts, Instagram stories and Twitter posts, but he promoted all of this on his own accord and was not paid for this free large promotion that he was providing the Disney channel. Jake Paul reaches a very large audience and he was providing Bizaardvark with free advertising. If he had strategically been able to work out a contract where Disney would pay him for each promotional social media post he would have been able to earn a large amount of extra income. This extra income would be very well deserved as he has worked extremely hard to grow his social media platforms into the promotional business giants that they are.

Importance of Rewarding Creators

Despite the fact that, in most cases, top creators will be paid very substantially for their talents, they still deserve to be paid for social media promotion. For example, in some cases actors today can reach a larger audience on their social media platforms, than some traditional forms of advertising campaigns can. Large social media influencers and celebrities have worked hard for their strong following. They either have outstanding talents that they have worked countless hours to craft, very strong business skills or a perfect balance of both.

Benefit to Creative Corporations

These social media influencer giants can also positively benefit large corporations, film companies for example, as these creators have established a loyal target audience. These large corporations should use the opportunity to pay the creator to promote as they are able to reach an important and specific market. By having a creator promote a movie, television show, music festival or another creative performance that they are a part of they are able to have more direct and personable marketing. Having a promotion from a television screen versus directly from a follower’s celebrity crush makes a drastic difference in the affect the advertising has on them. The advertisement will be much more effective if it comes directly from the creator.

Conclusion

Therefore, paying top creators more money for promotional campaigns on their social media platforms positively affects the corporations and the influencer themselves. Large creative corporations should take advantage of the beneficial promotional marketing and social media influencers deserve to be rewarded for their success.
