Pay for Posts
Hollywood actors should be paid to promote their movies on their social media. Hollywood actors are million dollar stars with huge numbers of followers, so yes, if a business that hires them wants to promote on their platforms they should pay them. Sure the star must already be making thousands of dollars for this movie, but the movie hired them to act, the never hired them to get through to their social media fan base. A person’s social media account is like a direct channel to a certain group of people so if business want to use it to their advantage they should compensate.
Actors/actresses don’t get paid any more or less if their fans go see the movie they’re in if they post it on social media. Famous people curate their content and they are specific about what they post, because the moment they do thousands of people see it, talk about it and screenshot it. Even if the artist takes it down a few seconds later, it’s very likely that at least a handful of people have screenshot that image. Thus, artists are extremely careful with what they post, when they post and who has access to their accounts.
Due to how protective actors are about their content and the look/feel of their personal accounts, businesses should pay to use that channel of promotion. How much actors should charge is a different story. I’ve never talked to anyone who has done personal promotion on social media, but the girls promoting skinny tea must get enough that they post about it every single week and don’t complain about it.
Mattering on the actor, their follower counts and the type of movie it is the price of personal promotion should change. The higher the follower counts the more money, as the promo is going to a larger audience. Also the more famous the actor (determined by awards, number of movies, etc.) the more they should get paid as their promotion is also more valuable. Actors take a lot of time making sure their social media platforms are carefully kept so businesses should not force them to promote on their pages if they do not want to. If they do want to promote without incentive that’s their personal choice, but if they don’t want to ruin their curated pages they should not be forced to.
With more and more self-promotions happening on social media, audiences start to question if what people are suggesting are actually good or are they just getting paid to post. Viewers are defiantly more skeptical about buying products they see other Instagrammers use, however if an actor is promoting their movie it is almost expected as they are showing off their work so audiences take it in a different way. Regardless, social media is one of the best and easiest ways to get to the viewer’s businesses want, so if businesses want a specific promo they should be willing to pay just like any other targeting platform. A person’s social media page is their social media page, their property. If anyone wants to use this property they not only have to ask, but give a compensation for the use.
