Recently, while I was scrolling through Facebook, I came across a video. The video was of a YouTuber laughing at Wendy’s tweets. I am not very active on Twitter and had somehow managed to go without the knowledge that Wendy’s tweets are seriously hilarious. When the topic of canned or planned corporate social media wins, this was definitely at the top for me.

Other corporate Twitter accounts have used a similar method of marketing (i.e. Taco Bell and Cinnabon). Drawing attention to their Twitter not just actively tweeting, but through sassy comeback tweets. Once reviewing other companies that use the same marketing scheme, Wendy’s has won. Wendy’s has done the best at going viral for their tweets in the right way. Cinnabon has done similar things but was definitely canned when they tweeted about the ‘best buns in the galaxy’ (https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/carrie-fisher-cinnabon-steve-martin-twitter/).

@Wendys is the corporate verified Twitter account. The tweets made by the people in charge of Wendy’s social media accounts are hilarious but also achieving the goal of reinforcing the companies main values. These tweets are most definitely planned. Wendy’s tweets are super personal and targeted at users to inflict an emotional response. Each of these tweets are hand-crafted with wit and humour. Tweets such as these aren’t just generic responses to customers problems, they are meant to capture the attention of audiences.

Wendy’s has truly won over it’s customers and more through it’s social media accounts. People all over the world are drawn in by their fascinating responses. They have learned how to reach an audience who has become resistant to the regular advertising methods. Companies have to become creative in their marketing methods and this is one, very positive way to do it. While Twitter is definitely not as popular as it used to be, Wendy’s tweets has me going back on just see what they’ve tweeted. This is a huge win for Wendy’s and Twitter alike.

Whether it is responding to customer’s questions, internet trolls, or plain old tweets, Wendy’s is trying to go above and beyond. Each of their tweets are carefully planned and tailored for the audience. One of the best ways to reach our generation is through humour and clap-backs. As a company with such scale, and using such a marketing method, it makes sense as to why these tweets have gone viral.
