In today’s age, social media surrounds us. It consumes the daily intake of our friend’s life updates, sporting team prospects, teenagers eating tidepods and ultimately the way we intake our news. Specifically, our political news. While I am not American, I am still exposed to the, very interesting world of American politics and American….problems. While us millennials prefer reading up on Trump’s latest poor decisions on our phones, our parents still prefer newspapers….my point being, with the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States in 2016, us consumers turn to the world of social to spout our opinions, see if others agree and catch up on the latest political gossip.

As of now, that political gossip is engrossed with Kanye West, who is wanting to run for Presidency. Or maybe score his own Disney channel show…..unsure. Although as equally annoying as Trump, Kanye does have something that politicians against him don’t have. The power of social media.

Kanye West is an active Tweeter, although most of us already know this. With Kanye’s infuence on social, it could (unfortunately) mean that his impact on us millennials voting in the upcoming Presidential election, could sway our vote…towards him. Kamala Harris, you may know her……*crickets*….for everyone who doesn’t, she is an actual politician wanting to run for President……and we have no clue who she is. I personally don’t follow either person, but still could tell you that Kanye wants to be the President of the USA and thats just that.

So, what does this tell us? Social media is growing day by day, bigger and better than years before. When Twitter came out my first tweet was ‘Wake up in the mornin’ feelin’ like P Diddy’….who would have known that this platform would become one of the most popular sources for consumers to read the news, tweet their favourite athlete hoping to get a response and ultimately gather facts and base their opinions on other people….off of their influence of social media. For Kanye, this is great. He has a strong following (along with some questionable tweets) but also a fan base through his music that helps his social media handle grow day by day. For Trump, well he’s just kinda….there. Kamala Harris on the other hand, just needs some work, socially. Although she’s no “Yeezus”, there is time for her to turn her social media platforms into something like Donald Trump and Kanye West, just maybe not so irritating? For Kamala, she needs to find a way to reach the younger generation and make us believe that she is worth being President over our fave (or maybe not so fave) rapper. How she will do this? Well I am not American, nor a politician but I am a millennial. To us, we use social media every day. Find a way to pop up on our timeline or make us watch your campaign speech…and you’re halfway there. We already have Trump as President so how much worse can it get right? For all we know, Harris could hammer out a wicked social media plan for the next 2 years and blow us all away….but then of course Kanye would claim that he made that b*tch famous…..only time will tell how much social media plays a part in the upcoming US election, but I have a feeling it will be very evident…..
