Even in the age of selfies and smartphone cameras, the quaint sound of a camera snap is endearing. For all of you out there who still hold on to their cameras, today is your day.

National Camera Day celebrates the invention of the camera and the irreplaceable part that photographs play in preserving memories.

The first memory captured in this manner was in 1826, after centuries of advance in chemistry and optics. French scientist Joseph Nicéphore Niépce took the historic photograph, titled View from the Window at Le Gras, at his family’s country home.

The bulky devices then morphed into digital cameras over centuries, and preserving memories became a lot more easier.

On this camera day, make sure you go out with your camera. You needn’t find an exotic spot — just observe the spaces that you frequent every day. Try to look for something special in the ordinary — or just capture something you’ve always found interesting.

If photography is something you’ve never tried before, but always wanted to do, you’ve got the perfect opening today.

This is a skill that can literally open your eyes to the beauty of small moments, so grab the chance to spot and save.

We’re looking forward to see what you come up with!

Claps, please!
