Hello again!

The quarantine isn’t over yet and sadly, our stay at home has been longer than expected and affected our lives in both good and bad ways. Challenges in various sectors, globally struck by the pandemic, refuse to die down, and every industry’s way of tackling COVID-19 is nowhere near comforting. Quarantine has forced offices, schools, colleges, and all official and recreational buildings to shut down along with exams being deferred.

Since the education sector has also been impacted, Ed-techs have become a driving force with a number of startups taking several proactive measures to ensure that learning never stops amidst the coronavirus crisis. With various ed-techs assisting students in the time of lockdown, it has led students to make complete use of the availability of the free resources being provided. With trending apps like ZOOM bringing classroom education home, teachers are largely teaching via video conferencing with their students. So, here is a detailed list of selected Edtech websites and apps which have made their services more affordable and convenient for students with special mention of upcoming ones:

  1. BYJU’s

Currently touted as India’s largest K-12 e-learning system, it was launched in 2015 and has been providing online courses for UPSC, K3, K10, K12, CBSE NCERT, ICSE, IIT-JEE & NEET available for e-Learning. It allows students and aspirants to access 50,000+ videos, tests, quizzes, games, interactive lessons, and videos that help them visualize each concept, making it easier to understand as clearer concepts lead to higher scores! Since 2 April 2020, in light of COVID-19, it is providing free classes for both paid and unpaid users. With webinars being recorded on a daily basis, students will not miss out on any lessons or materials provided by them. Byju’s is offering free access to students from class 1 to 12, until the end of April.

2. UNACADEMY

In a span of 6 months, over 300,000 students have benefited from over 2,400 online lessons and specialised courses on cracking various competitive examinations like UPSC, BANK SSC, Defence Exams, JEE, NEET, etc. It recently announced that in the midst of the crisis, it will be conducting free live classes for all competitive exams with all educators across the portal taking the initiative to join and provide their time to ensure that all courses are being completed on time. 700 classes are already being conducted per day and more such initiatives are coming up soon.

3. VEDANTU

Another interactive tutoring platform, it has taken digitalised traditional schooling to another level. Collaborating with schools from Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Kerala (in parts) have allowed teachers to use their platform and offer live classes to students. The crux of this initiative is that teachers will be providing their own resources and notes but the contents will be delivered on a personalised end via Vedantu. End-to-end online tutorials are also an option.

4. TOPPR

Another popular e-learning platform, Toppr has also decided to make changes in their services by making online classes from std 5 to 12 absolutely free till the lockdown is over.

Other than the above-mentioned platforms, some of the upcoming online learning platforms are also providing help for better and faster delivery of their services. Special mentions to them as well:

  1. YARDSTICK

Yardstick is a Telangana-based startup that has started an initiative called ‘Yskool’ under which it offers free live classes to the students/users.

2. LIDO LEARNING

This Mumbai-based ed-tech startup has decided to extend the free trial of its courses from a week to over 14 days.

3. ViDU

Like Yardstick, this Bengaluru-based ed-tech startup is also helping schools provide assessment solutions, alongside offering free online live classes, so that teachers can use this platform to conduct personalised classes for students via live streaming the classes.

4. IMPARTUS

Apart from providing innovative video learning solutions, amidst this crisis, Impartus has decided to offer virtual classes across most Indian schools and colleges for better interactive sessions for teachers and students.

5. RUBEX

With on-demand live learning sessions provided for 6–12 at RUBEX, it believes that everyone should have equal access to education. Hence it is working to make education value for money. One benefit of RUBEX classes is that its subscribers don’t have to enroll for an entire course, and rather, they only pay for the class they take.

No matter what comes our way, learning must not stop and in the time of crisis, Edtechs have taken such revolutionary steps for making learning better and convenient!
