My Favourite Reads Of 2021

The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein

Genre — Spiritual

My Review -

By the time I reached the end of this book, I had a smile on my face. I don’t have to do it all by myself. The Universe and I are buddies. I just got to take care of our relationship.💖

Deep Work by Cal Newport

Genre — Productivity, Time Management

My Review -

This book has opened so many doors and windows in my brain that now I feel the fresh air blowing in there. This book is so good you can’t ignore it! My mind is completely blown!

Deep work — that’s what I have wanted to do but never knew how to or where to start.

Now I have the answers.

And I’ll definitely revisit this book, again and again, to remind myself what matters to me must be my top priority.

If you want to progress in what matters to you, professional or personal, let this book help you out.

Daily Rituals by Manson Currey

Genre — Productivity, Time Management, Inspiration

My Review -

I didn’t expect to love this book so much. I’ve got so much to learn from this gem. What this book made me realise was, as a creative, I am not alone when I say, “I don’t get the time to write”. Nobody’s got the time, but these geniuses from the past still managed to do some fantastic works. I should stop cribbing and crying about it and get to work.

A great book if you want to know what the daily rituals of the well-known writers, philosophers, architects, doctors, etc., looked like. They weren’t that different from us. They had the distractions of their times as we have ours.

Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith

Genre — Writing, For Pantsers

My Review -

Have you heard of this quote by E.L. Doctorow?

“Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”

Writing into the Dark by Dean Wesley Smith tells you how you can do that.

There are too many writing books for plotters. Now I have finally found a book for pantsers.

If you’re a pantser, or want to understand what pantsing is, this book is a gem for you.

Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield

Genre — Writing, Creatives, Philosophy

My Review -

This book is the follow-up to the War of Art.

In the War of Art, Pressfield identifies resistance as the enemy of living an authentic life.

In Turning Pro, Pressfield teaches you how to defeat it.

This book has helped me change my attitude towards working on my craft. Now I am stronger than before and ready to face resistance every morning.

This book will make you take your craft seriously and have a professional attitude. This book is a kick-in-your-ass. If you want to become a creative taken seriously, you have to turn into a pro.

The Art and Business of Online Writing by Nicolas Cole

Genre — Writing, Online Writing, Authorpreneur

My Review -

One of my favourite books on writing!

This book helped me break my self-limiting belief that I can’t write and publish every day.

This book is the ultimate guide to writing in the digital age. Gone are the days of traditional avenues of publishing. Whether you like it or not, the world now is online. And if you want to build a successful writing career, that’s where you need to be. It’s high time we shift our perspectives regarding Writing, and this book helps you do that.

The Practicing Mind by Thomas M. Sterner

Genre — Philosophy

My Review -

This book came into my life at the perfect time. It is an ideal example of what it means to go with the flow.

Now I know that I am good where I am.

No one is going is ahead, nor am I being left behind.

We are where we’re supposed to be. If we accept that fact and learn to stay in the present, we’ll realise that we are learning and growing faster than we had expected.

The Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene

Genre — Philosophy

My Review -

One of the first questions I asked myself when I finished this book was — How did The Laws of Human Nature help me?

And the answer I heard myself say was — It made me humble.

It made me kind and considerate with not only others but also myself. My levels of being judgemental, being irritated by every second nuisance, always overthinking went way down.

Now I think before I react. I have also turned into a silent observer of people and life.

Thanks to this book, now I understand what we humans really are.
