I have been a product designer for about three years. Initially, the top focus is to make the product looks fantastic. Then I would spend a long time a long time thinking about the function of a product. As time goes by, I came to realize that what product design means is to design for people. Which means if you want to develop a good product, you should first know the people, which we called user. Nowadays, almost every designer knows this rule. What is important is to find the “weak points” behind the scenes. We design the things for users, the user feel good, but they don’t know precisely why they feel comfortable and satisfied, this is the trick that we want to achieve.

Studying “Rest of you” can help us think and find the things we will not pay much attention. After last class, I learn the difference between conscious and unconscious. I believe unconscious is the build in personality or behaviors in our mind or muscle. And because of deliberate actions always take more energy than unconscious activity, so when we are going to execute an order, the unconscious will go first which to save our energy. If that doesn’t work or we want to take further actions, then comes the conscious act. So, this could be the reason why we are lazy and why being hard working is not comfortable, because we were born to be lazy.

“Most of what we do and think and feel is not under our conscious control.”
“The conscious mind has little access to the giant and mysterious factory that runs below it.”
“When an idea is served up from behind the scenes, your neural circuitry has been working on it for years.”

I also pay attention to the negative emotions we have in our everyday life, how we generate the feels, is that feel controllable or not? Under what circumstances will we have the feelings, what are the specific physical performances of this emotion? Can computation detect these performances? If we can identify the sense beyond our conscious, can we find a solution to reduce the negative feelings by using design methods?

I want to study the “anxious” feeling from human beings.
