My dad died from cancer in 2008. It was a horrible battle with cancer, and he lost. He had been such a robust man, full of life and vitality. The disease destroyed his body and left him an empty shell.

I remember when I was a child, he loved to play the guitar. He would sing and laugh, and after a few beers, he would forget the words and make up his own.

I created this for my dad. I had always intended to paint his guitar, but cancer took him sooner than I had expected, so the painting became a memorial.

When I look at the painting, it makes me sad; But at the same time, it is a celebration of his life. It is a sobering reminder to make the most of right now. I always felt I didn’t have enough time with him.
