Confessions Of A New Runner: “You Just Need Running Shoes” Is A Lie

I’ve been running for almost 9 months now, and I realize that when people say that all you need to run is a pair of running shoes are LIARS!

Yes, a good pair of shoes is obviously the most important thing you need — to help protect your body from injury and to run well.

I’m going to be buying myself a 2nd pair of shoes tomorrow (Brooks Glycerin) so I have more than just my one pair of Brooks Ghosts. I’m hoping the different model, Glycerin, will be okay for me. They’re more cushioned than the Ghosts, that are already pretty cushiony, but I’ve heard Glycerins are good for more longer distances and races — like halfs and marathons, and since I’m now building up my distance past the 15km mark, I’m thinking a new pair of shoes to support those longer times on feet will be good. Plus, they’re on sale right now because they’re the previous model (the 20, not the 21).

I digress. Since I’ve started running again, I’ve ended up buying a whole lot of stuff I didn’t think I would be! And considering buying other things that I’m not sure I really need or not.

I’ve bought:

A variety of new leggings/tights

Gloves for winter running/wind
