Today is my 1 year anniversary of getting back into running again! After a looonnng break of 7.5 years. So really, I was starting from scratch, so that’s why I call myself a new runner. 7+ years is a long time not to run.

I stopped running in January 2016, after my Mom died the month before, in December 2015.

I know running is supposed to be helpful to your mental health, and with grief, and that most people find that it helps them work through these kinds of things and they continue running, maybe even run more. They don’t necessarily do what I did and…stop. When you’re running on the treadmill at your workplace a few weeks after your mom dies and you’re just crying and running…I thought to myself: what am I doing? I can’t do this right now.

I know I probably shouldn’t have stopped but…that’s what I needed to do at that time, I guess. Anyway, it is what it is. Or was what it was.

But fast forward a long way to July 7th 2023 which was the day that I got a new hair cut and colour. It was a beautiful day, and beautiful evening weather. And my freshly done hair gave me an energy boost and motivation to get outside and go for a walk. But the walk turned into…a…
