Running: Dealing With Injury
I’m not letting this heel pain keep me from working out
Besides minor aches and pains, I’ve managed to stay injury free over the last few years of my running journey. Has that streak been broken? I hope not.
Busy with life and work, plus a vacation, I managed to somehow take an eighteen-day hiatus from running. Honestly, many of those days I wanted to get a run in. By the time I was ready it was much too hot and humid.
That’s perfectly fine with me, I like to take breaks anyway. Just to give my body a chance for extended recovery. Also, mentally it helps to step away and come back stronger.
It was time, however, to get back on track. So, I prepared myself with what I thought was a good pre-run warm-up and set out for a nice easy run.
My goal was simple. An extremely easy pace to start out, then push a little harder midway, and finish with an easy pace. Simple right? And with a three-mile goal in mind, I had a solid game plan.
About halfway through my run I noticed a very slight pain in my left heel. It wasn’t enough to make me stop, I barely even noticed. Yet, in the back of my mind there was a voice telling me to ease up. I listened to that voice, eased up, but kept going.
