The day I moved out of my beautiful house and into my new small apartment with the clothes on my back and not much else, I sat in the middle of the bare floor and cried and cried until I couldn’t anymore.

I continued to go through the motions for weeks after that day that blurred into months.

One day out of the blue, I received a text from a good friend that said “Hey I am joining this running group training challenge and race. Wanna do it with me? It will be fun!”

I started blankly at the text for some time. I used to love running. In my younger years it was my thing. The solitude, the peace, the focus, the runner’s high, it is as good as it gets. Something only a runner can really understand. I needed an outlet. I didn’t even recognize myself anymore.

Without really thinking too much I replied “Yes! Let’s do this!”

And that was that.

Right then and there I signed up for the 5K Run for Women, the largest all women’s 5k in the US.
