I am not an athlete nor a professional. I am not a coach nor a trainer. I am a runner. Human. Unfiltered.

Like you, I put one foot in front of the other as fast as I can. I make mistakes. I fall. I give up and walk when my legs won’t run another stride. I push myself beyond my limits and get injured.

Why am I telling you this? I’m telling you this because I want to stress the point that I am not special. I both enjoy and hate running. I’m 35 years old. I have two children; aged four and one. My eldest has serious medical needs (more on that later), while the latter doesn’t sleep through the night. It’d be easy for me to not run: but.

I know running is good for me; both mentally and physically. A better me is a better me for my family. I like to push my limits and set myself (seemingly) unachievable goals because when I do achieve them, it feels good.

Your goals might be different to mine. That’s okay. The feeling of achievement is what we have in common.

I share this with you as I get ready to start 16 weeks of training, leading up to the London Marathon (my 2nd marathon) on Sunday 28 April 2019.

Goals

🏃‍♂️ I want to run every day for 100 days at the start of my training.
⏱ I want to run the London Marathon in under 3:00:00.

I’m going to share my unfiltered progress with you each week on #RunnerUnfiltered. Be sure to follow and read about every twinge and buckled stride. I’m (naughtily) planning my first weeks training on a day-by-day basis but once I get organised, I’ll be sharing my future weeks training plans ahead of time so you can get involved.

Whether you’re a beginner or advanced runner, whether you’re training for your 1st or 100th marathon — or you’re chasing down that 5K — you’re welcome to join me on my journey and hopefully find a little inspiration along the way to #KeepGoing 👏

It’s worth mentioning that I’m not just running this marathon for me. I’ve raised more than the £2,000 target to support KidneyCareUK. This is a cause that’s very personal to me as my four year old son has end stage renal failure. I’m worked-up to donate one of my kidneys (the left one) to him when he’s a bit bigger.

I’m not sharing my training to raise more money. If you want to make a donation, awesome. If not, that’s cool too. I’m sharing my training to make myself accountable and to inspire others to push themselves and reach their own (seemingly) unachievable goals.

Running is free. Reading about running should be free too.
