There are three keys to becoming a great runner: volume, having a plan, and working the plan consistently. This article discusses these three keys and gives tips for helping you master each of them. However, if you are running for your general health, all you have to do is run for about 30 minutes four or five times a week and you will greatly improve your health and chances of living a good, long life. But if you have goals for a more competitive running experience, here are some tips for you.

Volume, Volume, Lots of Slow Volume

The best thing you can do for your running is run more. If you run 20 miles a week, you will become a much better runner if you up that mileage to 30 miles per week. If you run 30 miles per week, you will see more improvements moving up to 40 miles. And on and on.

There are, for most people, of course, upper limits to the volume of running they can achieve in a week. Most of us have families, jobs, and lots of other responsibilities. All of these things can take time away from training. Determine how much time you have and use that time to build your volume.
