The question non-runners are constantly asking us; why? Why would you put yourself through that pain? There are many reasons why people choose to run. It’s good for your health and your mind. Running is a way to enjoy the outdoors. It’s a good way to stay in shape. It’s a way to stay competitive and see how far you can push yourself. Running releases stress. The list goes on. When I ask myself that question, my answer is always changing. There are just so many great reasons why I run. To help inspire you, I have collected some quotes from various runners on why they run:

“It helps me run away from my worries and helps builds the confidence and strength to go back and tackle them.”

“I love running because it’s something I have total control over. It is all up to you on how well you do in a race. You control every aspect when you run and I love that. Also, the feeling after I run is indescribable. I feel free and capable and just so happy. No matter how fast or slow you run, you still accomplish something no matter what.”

“I run because when I’m outside just jogging away, I breathe and I can almost taste what freedom is and it just relaxes me.”

“I run because it strengthens me mentally and physically.”

“I run because it’s what makes me happy. It relieves all the stress and frustration that’s built up through the rest of my life.”

“I run because it’s the only thing that keeps me sane. When I have a bad day or nothing seems to go right, it’s the only way I can calm myself. Running, especially trails, just gives you the peace of mind like you’re worth it. You, and only you, can decide if you do well. I run because it’s the one thing I can rely on when everything else in the world is chaos.”

“It helps to shape my character and become a better person, plus the pasta is good.”

“I run for the glory of a great God and the adrenaline of competition.”

“I run because I know each time I run, I am getting better.”

“It’s a way for me to be myself with no one around and get away from life for a second.”

“I run because it gives me the chance to make new friends, explore new areas, reach goals, get excited, win, try my hardest, and experience accomplishment.”

“I love the freedom of it and how it’s so stress-relieving.”

“I run to let my spirit free and to release negative emotions healthily. Also, it keeps me fit and strong.”

“Because I love it.”

There is no right answer to this question and that’s what is so great about running. There are an infinite amount of reasons to run. No matter your reasoning, keep running.
